Does your daughter long for a princess toddler bed? Virtually every little girl dreams of being a princess at some stage in their lives. They dress up in the clothes and pretend they are Sleeping Beauty or one of the other princesses made famous by various films. Little girls have played these games long before Disney started releasing princess movies and their merchandising departments seized on the opportunity to make more dollars selling branded products such as bed linen, beds, curtains and other accessories.
If you go shopping for a princess toddler bed, you will see that there are many different styles available. There are different brand names available such as Little Tikes or the ever popular Kidkraft princess toddler cot. As you would expect most of the beds come in pink but some have toddler rails, others have canopies and some even have both. Most are self assembly so while you don’t need to be a trained carpenter, it does help if you enlist someone to put the bed together for you if DIY is not your forte. You can do it yourself but it may take quite a while.

When you go shopping for any bed for a child be it a toddler bed or normal one, you need to make sure that they are suitable for the child in question. Most will state what ages they are appropriate for but it also makes sense to check the weight they will hold. Not all five year olds weigh the same and it is pointless buying a bed that will not hold your child’s weight. Also given the expense involved, i.e. most people do not stop at buying just the bed but will also buy princess themed bed linen and perhaps matching accessories, it makes sense for your child to use the bed for at least a year or so.
Most princess toddler beds are suitable for use with a crib mattress but it is always best to make sure. You will need to purchase the right sized mattress if your existing one does not fit the new bed properly. Most of these novelty plastic toddler beds are quite low to the ground so you probably do not need toddler rails. If your child were to fall out of the bed, they are unlikely to hurt themselves given the short distance to the floor.
Before going shopping it helps if you know whether you want a plastic, metal or wooden bed. Personally I would rate the plastic toddler bed a hit. I love the cute Little Tikes Disney princess toddler bed with its little hidden bookshelf and storybook cottage detailing. It is made from wood and is very sturdy. If you do not want a Disney version, there are plenty of very cute little pink and white ones that could easily pass for a princess toddler bed yet have a much lower price tag. Or you could buy a castle toddler bed as an alternative although you may have to paint it pink!
